Used Playstation Games: Play More Games and Save Money

With games priced twenty dollars and on up to almost a hundred dollars in some cases, it pays to know more about used Playstation games as a source for new games.

There are things that you can pay a lot of money for, only to go through them quickly. You may also find that you thought you were getting one thing but you end up with another. Those that play video games know all too well the feeling of paying a lot of money for a game only to find it is not what they thought, way too easy or hard, or that the game is just plain not to their liking.

Used Sony Playstation® games may not be new, but they are new to you.

You can get a great game that you have already played or that you are sure you are going to like for half or even less of the retail price. You may have tried a game at your friend’s house or perhaps you tried it out in the store but did not have the cash to buy a new one.

You can find used games in many game stores that sell new games. They often have large selections of them from which you can choose.

You can even return most used Playstation games to the store if you find that it does not work right or that it is broken in some way. That is not always the case with other types of used items.

Even better, the case may look a little worn, but the game on your television will not look used. It will look the same as if you bought it new.

You may not find the newest games among the selection of used games in the store right away, but give it a few weeks to see if something comes up. You may love the game, but chances are good that someone else that bought it did not.

You can also find used Playstation games through online sources as well. You can find them on sites like eBay, or any other auction site that you like to use.

There are many web sites out there that buy and sell games, just like your local store, that have used games for all types of gaming platforms.

The selection of games that you find online may be quite a bit more diverse than what you find locally. They probably have more copies of each game than your local store as well.

Don’t forget that you too can sell your used Playstation® games once you are done with them.

You may want to keep your favorites so that you can play them again, but there are some that you may get through and then never touch again.

If you bought one that you thought you would love, but you feel that it turned out to be a dud, go ahead and see if you can sell it to a used games store. You will not get a huge amount of cash for it, but that is better than it sitting on your shelf indefinitely.

Bottom line – saving some cash by picking up used games lets you buy and play more games.

Playing Scrabble Game Online

Scrabble is one of the games that has been a successful transplant to the smartphone, and people find that they love to play a Scrabble game online as never before – with other game enthusiasts elsewhere in the world.

If Alfred Butts, the guy who came up with the game Scrabble, were still around today he would probably be impressed at just how far his invention had come. Not only do millions of people play the Lexica game (it’s original name), they have taken it online.

There are at least two versions of Scrabble on the smartphone now. The regular game from Hasbro is one; the other is Words with Friends, kind of an imitator, if a successful one, from the online gaming giant, Zynga, the maker of Farmville.

The smartphone version that sells for Android phones in the iPhone has sold millions of apps so far. And it’s proven to be even more popular than  the original from Hasbro.

One problem with playing the original Scrabble from Hasbro on the smartphone is that the company hasn’t really been interested in taking the Scrabble game online as it should have. And when it did, the game was felt to be a bit lacking in smoothness and to be buggy. That’s why smaller and more and digitally-connected game designers have been able to steal Hasbro’s market share.

Playing the Scrabble game on a smartphone, it’s easy to play against the machine, all by yourself. But most fans of the game really prefer the social satisfaction of playing the Scrabble game online with an actual person; even if that person is unseen and far away.

Both smartphone versions of Scrabble allow you to chat with the person you’re playing with. A game once started, can often go on for weeks before it comes to natural end. And people often have several games going at once to take advantage of whoever happens to be online at the time they are interested in playing. And the best part is, you are even allowed to cheat.

People love playing the Scrabble game online on their smartphone with the version from Zynga because it makes a few changes to the format of the original game for fewer rules and more scoring. It’s easier for players to make more points more quickly.

And of course, it has a function that allows you to play random strangers from anywhere around the world. The game just matches you to anyone. It’s great way to make new friends.

But that hasn’t really taken away from the popularity of the physical board game with its little tiles that you need to keep safely and fix on those little tile racks. If anything, the Scrabble game online feeds an interest people have in the real thing.

How Big Can Online Video Games Get?

If you watched any kid play Farmville or Mafia Wars on Facebook recently and found yourself growing in anxiety at the inaneness of it all, here’s a bit of news that should not do anything to help with it.  Zynga, the company behind these smash hits, is being touted as a soon-to-become Google of gaming on the Internet.

Zynga is being trumpeted as the biggest startup in Silicon Valley since Twitter and Facebook. There is one small difference – Twitter is a great concept that helps connect people, it doesn’t really make much in revenues.

Farmville on the other hand is set to a rake in a half billion dollars in revenue this year alone, selling fake fertilizer and farm animals. To think that anyone could make that kind of money on a free Facebook game is quite staggering!

If they began to charge something off every player, they would probably grow even faster. And to think that they have grown to this stage in a mere two years.

There can be problems that can attend such growth rates though. Some players sign up to have everything they do on their virtual farms sent to their friends as a  Facebook update. That can be quite tiring for the receivers of those updates.

Millions of Facebook users recently banded together to join a group called “I don’t care about your farm”. So, is Zynga the only maker of hit online video games on Facebook? There are lots of players out there who would like to repeat Zynga’s success for themselves.

The childishly simple characters and plots of Zynga’s games that rake in much more money than traditional high-tech videogames, have the gaming industry a little peeved. But they aren’t about to sit on the sidelines and watch these new developers enjoy all the action.

Electronic Arts, the maker of some great titles for the PlayStation and Xbox 360 has just bought Playfish, a Zynga competitor, for a half billion dollars, to establish itself in this new gaming environment.

There was a child in the news recently who went and emptied his mother’s credit card of thousands of dollars to buy Farmville merchandise; several Farmville subscribers have launched a class action lawsuit against Zynga for the way it has signed them on for costly services that they did not ever ask for.

It is all part of becoming successful quickly in a world of cutthroat competition. In the symbiotic relationship that Facebook and Zynga enjoy, who needs whom more, some people ask. One thing’s pretty clear – about a third of all visitors to Facebook come there exclusively to play the games. It would be pretty easy to speculate that they both needed each other.

Video Games as Job Recruitment Tools

Does playing Call of Duty: World at War or Modern Warfare inspire children to grow up to be soldiers and Navy SEALs? Does Grand Theft Auto inspire young people to go out and let their wild side out? Does Farmville inspire young layabouts to pick up a spade and do some gardening?

Apparently, that’s what Marriott International thinks. To inspire a new generation and to sell them on the idea of accepting hotel jobs, the hospitality giant has created a new online game that it hopes will make the hotel industry look like a good place for jobs to young people.

If city building games like SimCity 3000 can inspire people to invest themselves in the nuts and bolts of building a whole city, Marriott hopes that a game like My Marriott Hotel, where players have to scramble about managing money, keeping the restaurant kitchen well-stocked and ordering groceries, can inspire a new generation of reality gamers.

The idea is that once young people are given a window into what goes into the running of a hotel, they’ll find something somewhere that they like that might inspire them to take up a job in the industry and .

If the idea that the videogame could inspire anyone to do anything in real life sounds a bit silly, you need to look at how in the past, people have provably responded to videogame recruitment tools.

About 10 years ago, the America’s Army videogame that the government introduced proved to be cheap and effective. The game itself was supremely popular and it did send the number of potential recruits up.

The whole online game recruitment idea has proven to be so powerful that there are all kinds of companies that are jumping in with games of their own to stimulate interest and job applications.

How about a factory job? Could anything be more unglamorous? Well, that’s why Siemens, a company that builds factories for other companies, has a game out called Plantville – that they hope will glamorize the whole thing to potential job seekers.

There are other games that try to get you to run a diner or be a busboy at a hotel. It must the Tom Sawyer’s rule of life – if you have to actually paint a fence, nothing could be more boring.

Try to make a game out of it, and suddenly, everyone will actually pay to do it. Pretty soon, you’ll have a janitor’s game on Facebook that players mop floors and clean toilets on.

Back to the Marriott game, the hotel brand needs the game because it’s expanding quite strongly in regions like China and India. These are not places where hotel industry jobs aren’t regarded well. A game, the hotel chain feels, might make its jobs more attractive to a new generation.

iPhone Killing Handheld Video Game?

When Nintendo enjoyed a virtual monopoly over the handheld videogame market in the 80s, it may have anticipated that it could one day face competition from some other manufacturer of video games consoles; when the Sony PSP came around, Nintendo thought it was ready.

What they weren’t so ready for was the way people would one day come to own little handheld phones that were virtually full-blown computers. And that these would play and compete head-on with a dedicated handheld.

Certainly, both Sony and Nintendo sell millions of units all over the world and are very successful in video games.

But if there is one startling fact that the handheld video game business needs to feel fearfor, it has to be this – the Nintendo DS has about 5000 titles; the Sony PSP has more than 600; the iPhone has more than 20,000.

Not that Apple isn’t aware of the way its phones are becoming the de facto standard for the handheld videogame user. Each iteration of the iPhone comes with faster processors, better operating systems and more memory to better play games.

In other words, the iPhone and other smartphones, with their gameplaying capabilities, are going far beyond what dedicated handhelds are capable of. Everyone watched all agog as Steve Jobs announced the iPad 2. Most people weren’t aware though, of how the president of Nintendo had a video game developers‘ conference right there too.

And he was talking about how smartphones with their $1 and $2 video games, were driving down the quality of what video games were capable of, for the whole industry; how they were making videogame development an unprofitable venture for most developers.

Certainly, cheap games for smartphones have led the charge in completely changing the way people experience video games. Nintendo is worried that since video games for smartphones are so cheap, developers interested in putting together a truly wonderful game will stop finding it profitable.

Games will just not be all that profitable anymore. Still, perhaps it might just be a case of sour grapes. Developers may be forced to sell their games for under five dollars on the app store; but there are millions of app customers worldwide who could more than make up in volume what they lack in buying power.

You have to admit that smartphone games aren’t as deep or as fully featured as the current games you get on a handheld video game machine. But that could change as smartphones become more powerful and more entrenched.

Which Online Game to Play?

Anyone looking for a great online game does not have to look far. There are thousands of places to play games on the Internet.

There may be a lot of them, but it is kind of hard to find the best places to play. Most sites that have games are good though, but a smart person will be wary of having to download anything from a site that they know nothing about.

There are some that require this to play online, and usually these sites are well known and safe. It never hurts to check to make sure each sites does not have a bad reputation by putting their name in a search.

When looking for an online game, there are many types that might help someone narrow down what they want to play.

There are sites like Pogo that offer all types of different games. They have word games, puzzles, sports, card games, and other mind benders. There are many sites like Pogo, and they each have their own unique set of games along with some of the more traditional online choices like solitaire and chess. A person only has to choose what type of online game they prefer.

Another type of online game is the role playing type. These might often require a fee, but they are games that can be played at any time, and they are often played with other people on the same site.

I don’t know much about them, but I do know there is a Sims online game that many love to play, and though it is not exactly like the home versions of the game, those who play have a lot of fun with it.

Some people play the same games for years on end and never get tired of them. They are often ongoing, and any one can pick up where they left off when they find time to play.

Though not each online game will be free, many of them are. Some sites have a membership fee that allows someone to play without having to view ads, but they usually also have a free membership. The players should be able to play most of the same games, but some special ones are for those with a membership only.

Either way, there are many types of online game to play, and there are even many variations of the same game. There is always something out there for everyone of any age or of any interest.

Laptop for Gaming Your Best Choice?

If you’re a gamer with a limited budget looking for a laptop for gaming, you may be better off buying a desktop computer. You get a lot more mileage for your money. But laptops, more and more, are becoming mainstream and don’t really cost much more than desktops as they used to.

You really could find a laptop for gaming that was designed with all the right features, that wasn’t that much more expensive than the desktop equivalent. Here is what you need to know.

How do you know that a given machine is a gaming laptop? Well, usually, they don’t build them to be as slim and lightweight as regular laptops. They are built for performance, even if it means a less flattering figure.

Now a laptop for gaming isn’t just a powerful laptop. It needs to have specific features built in that don’t all have to do with performance.

Let’s look at something to do with performance first of all and get out of the way. It goes without saying that a gaming laptop needs a powerful graphics card built into the system. Since this is meant to be an evergreen advice article and not just something for today, it’s hard to specify what kind of graphics card it should be.

As of late 2011, one specification you could look for would be a card built-in that had 2GB in graphics memory. That isn’t the only specification you need to look for though. Just look for the best discrete desktop graphics card for gamers they are selling at the moment, and look for something that’s nearly as powerful for your laptop.

A good way to judge how adequate the graphics card on your laptop is, would be to look up the recommended configuration for the games you intend to play. If your laptop has something like that, you’re good to go.

But apart from the performance, you’re looking for things that make gaming actually easy and convenient.

For instance, if they call it a laptop for gaming and the keys seem all crammed together, that’s poor design. Look for well-spaced backlit keys and a tapering keyboard design. You need to be able to hit those keys in a split second.

Of course, you need a good screen that’s at least 15 inches, and full HD would not be a bad idea either. But you do want screen quality and sound quality that really live up to what the game designers have intended. And intend very well, they do.

They design games these days to spectacular Hollywood movie levels of budget. The better your screen and sound are, the better you’ll enjoy your game. Look for audio ports that will allow you to directly plug your laptop into a surround sound system if it’s available.

Of course, if you are not on a budget, then you could take a look at the popular Dell Alienware M18X Gaming Laptop!
